Schools Online
Schools Schools Online is a public benefit 501(c)3 organization whose mission is to help students gain access and use the communication and information resources of the Internet for learning and cross-cultural dialogue. We accomplish this by providing appropriate technology and Internet access, developing locally-driven and sustainable Internet Learning Centers, facilitating teacher professional development, cultivating online cross-cultural projects, and sharing our knowledge and experience. Since 1996, over 5,700 under-served schools in the US and 400 schools in 32 other countries have received equipment and support necessary to get online. [471]

World Computer Exchange
WCE is dedicated to helping the world's poorest youth bridge the disturbing global divides in information, technology and understanding. WCE does this by keeping donated PCs, Macs, and Laptops out of landfills and giving them new life connecting youth to the Internet in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. WCE leverages the resources of businesses, strategic allies, volunteers, schools, and their community service programs to help WCE partners to prepare and train the schools, teachers, and students they recruit to use the Internet as a bridge to information, resources, educational materials, and new opportunities. Global Teenager
Global Teenager is a network of secondary school students from around the world; emphasis being on both developing and developed countries. The network is comprised of schools that are coordinated locally by IICD education partners, country coordinators and school leaders. NetDay
NetDay began in 1995 as a grassroots volunteer effort by companies, educators, families, and communities to wire the nation's K-12 classrooms for Internet access. The organization, headquartered in Irvine, CA, was founded by John Gage from Sun Microsystems and Michael Kaufman from KQED. The first National Wiring Event was held on March 9, 1996 in California, where an estimated 50,000 volunteers wired 4,000 schools - approximately one-third of California's K-12 schools. Since then, NetDay has expanded to 40 states and mobilized over 500,000 volunteers to wire more than 75,000 classrooms in states across the country. [466]

Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA)
The Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) is a non-governmental organisation with members in 11 of the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) countries. Officially launched in September 1992, MISA focuses primarily on the need to promote free, independent and pluralistic media, as envisaged in the 1991 Windhoek Declaration. MISA seeks ways in which to promote the free flow of information and co-operation between media workers, as a principal means of nurturing democracy and human rights in Africa. The role of the MISA is primarily one of a coordinator, facilitator and communicator, and for this reason MISA aims to work together with all like-minded organisations and individuals to achieve a genuinely free and pluralistic media in southern Africa.
