Global Youth Service Day (GYSD)
Global Youth Service Day (GYSD) is an annual global event organized by Youth Service America and the Global Youth Action Network, together with a consortium of 32 International Organizations and well over 100 National Coordinating Committees that Celebrates, Recognizes, and Mobilizes the year-round contributions of young people to build their communities and their world through voluntary service, and the contributions made by the community (public, private, and nonprofit sectors) for empowering young people, especially through mentoring. Tackling the Knowledge Divide to generate employment for young people
The digital divide is real for most low and middle-income countries. This is due to a range of obstacles from a lack of infrastructure to the high cost of computers. The difficulties faced by young people in attempting to tap information and communication technology (ICT) as a source of employment needs more recognition. This was a key message from the recent Youth Employment Summit in Alexandria, Egypt, 7-11 September 2002. [1044]

Youth Input to Global Knowledge Partnership DOTforce Report
From January-February 2000, the Global Knowledge Youth Advisory Council facilitated an e-conference on “Youth: Building Knowledge Societies.” This event brought together more than 350 participants, primarily young people between the ages of 15-30 from developing countries, to explore how youth are using Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in the production, dissemination and use of knowledge for sustainable development. Africa Alive

African Learning Network (ALN)
The African Development Forum (ADF) convened by ECA in Addis Ababa in October 1999, saw the issue of education and Internet-based activities in schools and universities raised on various platforms.
