RM pledge 7,000 computers
RM plc, a leading provider of computer equipment in schools in the UK, are set to become Digital Links' biggest donor of computers to date by supplying 7,000 computers over the next six months. The computers, which are becoming available as part of an IT refresh programme involving 112 schools in the Dudley area, have already started arriving at the Digital Links depot at the rate of 250 per week.
The significant increase in supply of donated computers as a result of the RM agreement has coincided with plans by Digital Links to scale up operations in East Africa. Computers that were until very recently sitting in classrooms and computer laboratories in Dudley will soon be being used by schoolchildren in Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya. With Digital Links implementing programmes in a number of other countries across Africa, the impact of RM's donation will be felt far and wide.
Tim Pearson, CEO of RM, explained why they chose Digital Links:
We looked into a variety of companies and Digital Links stood out. It seemed a highly ethical company and was set up to handle the scale - unlike many of the other charities which were offering a similar service. The people we spoke to were constructive, positive, well organised and importantly for us, true to their word. As a partner, Digital Links has been excellent - all we could ask for.
David Sogan of Digital Links claims that the importance of this partnership cannot be underestimated.
"By having a secure supply chain, it means that we can start to make big plans for the future, the sheer numbers involved mean that we can scale up some of our successful existing programmes. With each of our computers being used by an average of 30 pupils per week, this donation has the potential to touch the lives of over 200,000 people."
