Project5

Participation in Global Forums

Based on the effect that the ATN had on the IEARN conference held in Moscow 2002, it is proposed that the ATN targets the participation of 30 Africans in the next forum scheduled for Tokyo Japan in July 2003. 15 of the 30 participants will be African students.

Project 5: African Participation at IEARN Conference 2003

The advantages of participation in global forums is that face to face exchanges have enormous educational benefit, particularly in the way the IEARN conferences are convened which encourages regular interaction of learners from al over the globe. The objectives of this project are to encourage African participation in global forums and to encourage awareness globally, of the plight and experiences of African teachers.

As part of their participation, teachers and learners will be encouraged to discuss how they can contribute towards strengthening the African Teachers Network. Furthermore, they will be encouraged to devise projects to strengthen the ATN.

The outputs of this project will include:

  • 15 African teachers and 15 African learners will have;
  • learned about Japanese education system;
  • been provided an opportunity to speak about the conditions in Africa to a global forum;
  • met with learners from all over the world;
  • given the opportunity to discuss face to face, potential collaborative projects. The proposed partners for this project will be TICAD, OSISA and the Commonwealth of Learning.
