Project3

Inter-African Teacher Exchange

During the start-up year, it is proposed that 20 African teachers be provided exchange visits within a school or schools in another African country. The activities will involve the following:

  • 10 teachers from selected Southern African countries will travel to respective neighbouring countries to work with a school over a period of two weeks. Two from each of the five countries will be selected:

Malawi

Mozambique

Namibia

South Africa

Zimbabwe

  • 10 teachers from West and East African countries will travel to respective neighbouring countries to work with a school over a period of two weeks. Two from each of the five countries will be selected:

Benin

Mali

Morocco

Senegal

Uganda

The teachers will travel in pairs and will engage in the following activities:

  • Be stationed at one school for one week and another school another week.
  • Observe teaching in the said teacher’s subject area.
  • Guest teach using ICTs at the schools that the teacher is visiting.
  • Engage in discussions with teachers at the schools on ways.
  • Write a journal of their exchange visit for submission to the ATN and SNA.

The project will be evaluated based on the experience of this pilot initiative.

Following the evaluation, the project will also consider a project on a larger scale. The outputs of this project will therefore include:

  • 10 African teachers will have gained experience in another African school in another African country.
  • 10 African teachers will have exchanged ideas for support and collaboration with another African school in another African country.
  • 10 African teachers will have contributed to the teaching process with the use of ICTs in another African country.
  • An evaluation report which will be widely disseminated and which provides recommendations for scaling up an exchange program of this nature.

The proposed partners for this project are OSISA and OSIWA.
