What you need to do

Activity 1

Introducing yourself

Please prepare a short e-mail to send to the other members of the group. In this e-mail you should write a couple of paragraphs in which you state:

  • Your name (if you have a nickname that you like people to use, please feel free to tell us);
  • Where you live;
  • Where you work, what position you hold in the organisation, and, very briefly, the kind of work you do and
  • Why you are interested in the course;

You can write this part of the activity in the body of your email.

Once you’ve introduced yourself, we would like you to complete an introductory exercise which will enable you to browse the course material and become familiar with the way in which the course is structured and designed.

Using the template provided, we would like you to list what you think are the 10 most important issues to address when setting up and maintaining a technical service centre and the services that it provides. We suggest that you browse through all 6 modules, focusing most of your attention on the module introductions and activity overviews.

Click here to send an e-mail to the group for this activity. Attach your saved document listing the 10 most important issues to your email. When you have completed your mail, send it to the group.

At this time, you should start receiving the responses of other members of the group. Please read through their responses, so you can learn more about the other people in the group. At any point, you can respond to these mails (and we would encourage you to do so), either by pressing the Reply button on the e-mail or by clicking on this link (Share further comments on activity one with the group).

As these mails start circulating, your mentor will begin a brief discussion via e-mail on the responses. Please read these mails and - most importantly - feel free to get involved at any time by replying to the mails.
