Introduction

Distribution and Installation Activities

Distribution and installation refers to all of the activities necessary to transport, deliver and install second-hand and refurbished PCs in appropriate African schools. These activities include:

  • Storage of PCs prior to distribution to final destination,
  • Identification of suitable schools to receive PCs,
  • Assessment of infrastructural requirements and shortfalls of the selected schools,
  • Elimination of infrastructural shortfalls together with the schools (for example, improving building and security, sourcing additional equipment required, sourcing funding to cover costs where the school cannot do so),
  • Assessment of teacher training requirements and shortfalls,
  • Transportation of PCs to final destination,
  • Arranging for installation of the refurbs together with other necessary equipment (including printers, phone lines and modems) to create a working laboratory, and
  • Installation of PCs in school laboratories including education content to ensure and encourage the educational use of the PCs in schools.
